The Year in Rhetoric

Writer and columnist Sam Leith explores the modern relevance of the ancient art of persuasion - rhetoric.

Examining how people have taught, practised and thought about rhetoric from its Attic origins through to the 21st century, Leith tells the stories of a cast of villains and heroes of persuasion, from Cicero and Erasmus, to Hitler, Churchill and Obama – and rounds up the best and worst speeches of the year gone by.

Speaker: Sam Leith, columnist and author of You Talkin’ to Me?: Rhetoric from Aristotle to Obama (Profile Books, 2011)
